Yesterday D offered me a piece of Sunfeast Dark Fantasy Chocofills and asked, “Isn’t it good?”, to which I replied in the affirmative. However, I wasn’t quite prepared for the question that followed. “Mama, can’t you make this???” That set me thinking….. Well, yeah I gotta try making this. Even though I have never done any experimentation in baking till date, I thought it was time to stretch my limit. After all it was a challenge…
After some brain racking, I formulated a recipe and set about. Though the appearance of the baked cookies seemed good, I kept my fingers crossed till D took his first bite. His BIG smile said it all.
Homemade Dark Fantasy Choco Fills
Ingredients
Flour- 1-1/4 cups + 1 tablespoon
Cocoa powder- 1/4 cup
Baking soda- 1/2 teaspoon
Butter- 1/2 cup
Salt- 1/2 teaspoon
Brown sugar- 3/4 cup
Milk- 1/4 cup
Vanilla essence- 1 teaspoon
Chocolate chunks- 1/2 cup
Method
Preheat oven to 190C. Sieve the flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda a few times and keep aside. Beat the sugar and butter till creamy. Add the milk and vanilla essence and mix well. Add the flour mixture and mix till well blended. Take a spoonful of mixture and roll into a ball. Make a depression in the centre and place a chunk of chocolate. Cover and roll into a ball and flatten it. Place on a lined cookie sheet. Bake in the oven for about 12 – 15 minutes. Leave it to cool.
Tip:- I would recommend putting bigger chocolate chunks in the centre to get a gooey chocolaty core

hi merri..made this as choco chip cookies..came out perfect..just like my boys wanted..crunchy..(i felt i’ve over baked it for a couple of minutes..but they loved it..)thnx for the recipe and tips…(added oil for butter and replaced 1/4C cocoa with roasted&powdered oats..)
Thanks for trying dear…
Hi Mareena, would the recipe work fine if I replaced brown sugar with powdered white sugar ?
Yes Sariga.. Its ok to use White sugar instead of brown sugar.I would recommend granules than powdered sugar… The taste will be slightly different though…
it does taste gud…..thx fr d recipe!
You are most welcome
recipe seems quite simple.. I would love to try it
even your cookies look just perfect. 1 question though – do u add brown sugar granules or powder? Thanks
Anna, Adding brown sugar as granules is absolutely fine. I prefer powdering the sugar as its easier to cream. Hope this helps
wonderful……..it came out toooooooo
gooooood
Thank you for your feedback
Happy that you liked it..
Hey – the filling may become hard on storage na- can we use Choco paste Instead for that semi liquid feel- Please suggest recepie if any. Thanks
You could using chocolate ganache or sauce. The trick will be to close the outer covering after pouring the filling…
Can you please share the recipe for the same…Thanks in advance
Sorry for the delay in replying yasmeen..I hadnt seen this message. You can find the chocolate sauce recipe here..http://mareenasrecipecollections.com/2012/09/07/chocolate-sauce/
hi,mareena,i would love to try this recipe.bt i hv one question?wil the mixture be creamy or solid?wil i b able to handle it,wen i will put the chocolate in the middle.
The mixture will be a soft dough. Take some of it and roll into a ball. Make a hole in the centre and put in the chocolate. One thing that has been brougt into my notice by some of the readers is that teh chocolate hardens on storage. I never faced that issue as they werent any leftovers
So the better option wud be to pour in a little chocolate ganache or sauce and cover it. Its going to be a tricky affair though.but once you get the hold of it, it should be fine.. Hope it helps …
Thanks a lot Mareena…
you are welcome. one suggestion..use the sauce when it is really thick..
for how much time we need to preheat the oven? can this be done in convection mode in micro?
All kinds of baking can be done in convection mode in Microwave Ishani. I am sure it has settings for preheating as well. Best wishes
will white sugar powder do?i hope it doesnt bring any change in it.?
Hi Ishani,
You can always use white sugar. the taste will be slightly different though. But Nothing serious..Go ahead
I hve tried darkfantasy choco fills but i am not getting how to place in convection exactly…..i hve greased the plate with ghee and a place them for 10to12min but it is being burnt slightly.190c…plz suggest i want to prepare for diwali…..plz help
Hi Dimple,
After reading the issue you are facing, I would suggest to try baking the cookies at 180C or bake for lesser time at 190C. Ideally after you grease the plate sprinkle flour generously on top of the ghee and tap away the excess flour. Using a butter paper/ parchment paper would be the best option. Too much of ghee could also have been a cause. I hope this helps.
