Crispy sesame beef

It was during our Dubai trip that I tasted Crispy Fried Beef, for the first time, at a Chinese restaurant, ‘Nanking’. The beef was crunchy and the taste was amazing, unlike any beef preparation I had till then. I must confess that my favourite Chinese restaurant in India is the Nanking at Secunderabad and for a moment thought it to be part of the same chain, which it was not.

Fried Chicken liver chilli

During my college days, I used to stay in a hostel near our college in Mangalore. Sometimes on Sundays, a sudden plan would take shape in someones head, to eat out. The next moment, we all would be out of our rooms, ready to head to ‘Hao Hao’, our favourite hangout for Chinese cuisine. I used to love their Fried Chicken Liver Chilli. This dish was so tasty that some of my friends who were not very fond of Chicken liver, ultimately ended up being the first ones to dig into this dish, when served. (more…)

Xacuti, pronounced Shakuti, is a Goan curry consisting of grated coconut, onion and spices. It is pretty much similar to the Varutharacha Curry that we make in Kerala. It was the name of this dish, which drew me into trying it. The name sounds stylish, and seems to be rhyming with that of some Italian sports bikes. :-) After preparation, I realised that this dish turned out to be as exciting as its name. I generally  refer to the Goanfoodrecipes site for my experiments on Goan cuisine. After reading its reviews, I gave a little twist to the original recipe, which I would say was worth it.

The other day I was racking my brain to prepare a snack item, using beef, that isn’t too spicy. All the preparations I knew of had generous amounts of spices. That’s when the conversation I had with my little sis came to my mind. She had mentioned about a dish she had prepared with chicken, which was a hit. So I decided to adapt this recipe to Beef. The best part is that it’s very simple and easy to make. (more…)

This time around, D’s request for dinner was Pizza and that too Non-Vegetarian. The request came almost at the last moment without leaving any scope for running to the market. You know Kids!!! they drop the bomb at the last moment. Anyway, I couldn’t say no to my little one and so I decided to go it my way with whatever was there in the refrigerator. (more…)

Pickles…. The mere mention of it makes me drool, especially if it is Beef, Fish or Prawn. Though fish and prawn pickles are readily available in our local Kerala store, I am yet to discover ready made beef pickles in this part of the country. So, with a little experience of having made it earlier, I decided to give it another shot. (more…)

Today I was feeling very adventurous and wanted to try out something really different from another part of the world. My search for this adventurous dish landed me on  Burmese Khow Suey. Although I have heard a lot about Burmese Khow Suey, I never got an opportunity to taste it till date. Burmese Khow Suey is a noodle dish consisting of coconut milk, meat and certain spices. It is a wholesome meal and is very similar to Curry Laksa, a Malaysian delicacy.

Cutlets…One of my favourite snacks since my childhood days. It happens to be J and D’s favourite too!! This is one those snack items where none of is satisfied by having just 2 or 3. The more the better. So much that even if it is served as meal, it would be welcomed heartily. (more…)

Relocating to a new place on transfer is like pressing the reset button. Gotta start all over again!! I feel like Alice in Wonderland, especially when it comes to the source of my food supplies. As I slowly started to explore the markets for ingredients for my recipes, it dawned on me to try something with Beef and Pork. Getting good pork and beef in this part of the world (North of India) is certainly not an easy task. But thankfully, I was in for a pleasant surprise when someone told me that there is door delivery service for all kinds of Non vegetarian items, including pork and Beef. It really felt like music to my ears. :-P

Now that I have got into the grind, I was highly motivated to try out something new today. A quick look at the pantry and my eyes didn’t go past the Bucatini. :-) Bucatini is a thick spaghetti-like pasta with a hole running through the centre. The name comes from Italian: buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced” (Courtesy: Wikipedia). As I had saved the recipe of  Bucatini All’Amatriciana with Spicy Mozzarella Meatballs in my favourites folder, I didn’t have to search for the recipe. (more…)
