A statement while talking to your college friends is “Those were the days!!! Wish we got those days back !! “. Never in my dreams did I think that I would get an opportunity to enjoy college life at a latter stage of life. So when J got admission to the prestigious Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, I was truly elated. Well, I could enjoy the college life and needn’t worry about the exams and studies…Bliss !! Isn’t that a double whammy??
I was soooooo looking forward to the life at ISB. When we moved into our fully furnished studio apartment within the campus, the first thing I checked was the Microwave only to be disappointed a bit. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the convection function…which means… my baking has to take a backseat till I find a solution to it.. :-( The last week was pretty hectic with activities and hence it took us even longer to get the kitchen running. A constant thought that was nagging me was the fact that I haven’t updated my blog. So the moment I managed to spare some time, I decided to share some Kerala recipes with you, my readers. (more…)

Schezwan Fried Rice
All this while, I was under the impression that Szechwan Fried Rice was some authentic Chinese dish. The bubble of myth burst while I was doing my research on the subject. To my surprise, I discovered that Szechwan Fried Rice was popular only in India. So how does that connect to China or Szechwan?? My wild guess is that this is a fusion dish invented by some die hard Chinese food lover for the Indian palette. :-) (more…)

Tomato Rice is a nice way to put some thing on the table when I feel plain lazy, especially on a Sunday morning. It is an extremely easy to make dish and can see me through the day. You can eat it plain, but a spoon of prawn pickle would get its taste over the roof. :-) (more…)

The Hara Masala Biryani recipe I am presenting here is an original creation of mine, a result of my experimentaion. I just called it Hara Masala Biryani because the masala used to prepare the Biryani is green in colour. If there is a Biryani by the same name, I am not sure whether it would taste the same. I can only say that my preparation definitely tastes yummy and my boys will vouch for it.  (more…)

I had come across the recipe of Yakhni Biryani by Chef Zakir Qureshi some time back and has been following ever since. I found the preparation of this Biryani unusual but went ahead. It was totally different from the Biryani I was used to and liked it as well. If you are looking for a Biryani without too much masala, you are at the right place.. :-) (more…)

The first time I ever heard of Sindhi Biryani was while watching the programme ‘Food Safari’ on TV. I have been looking forward to make this Biryani for a long time, and what better occasion than for Lunch on New Years’ Day. As soon as I was finished with taking pictures, J asked me to serve it immediately as he couldn’t wait till lunchtime. I was glad that the look of it triggered his appetite. (more…)

It’s Biryani time again and this time I decided to go for my favourite Hyderabadi Biryani. The blending of Mughlai and Andhra cuisines in the kitchens of the Nizam, resulted in the creation of the Hyderabadi Biryani. Hyderabadi Biryani is of three types, the Kacchi Biryani, the Jappu Biryani (raw) and the Pakki Biryani. (more…)

I had received a request to put up Malabar Biryani recipe from a friend of ours. I have never made any Malabar Biryani nor did I have the recipe. Keeping this in mind, I asked my friend Taha, who belongs to the Malabar region, if he could help me in this regard. He promptly directed me to Safeera H S, who graciously agreed to share her recipe with me. (more…)

I just can’t explain the roller coaster of emotions  going on inside me right now. Confusion, excitement…the list goes on..Confusion as to which recipe to choose from the variety of our family favourites..Yeah..have a big list of them..So there I was racking my brains on the recipe when it dawned on me that I have to cook lunch as well. Had a peep into the refrigerator and settled down on Chicken Biryani with Mirch ka Salan to go along with it..So that’s it..let that be my first recipe.

In my earlier years, somehow I was (more…)
