Salami rosettes1

It was during one of those internet browsing sessions, that I came across Salami-Bread Roses. Though the idea did ring a bell, I was too preoccupied to give it a second look. Nevertheless, the thought stayed in my mind, and while preparing the dough for Cinnamon Rolls, it popped out. So I took out a bit of the dough and made two roses. Voila!! It was a beauty !! Hats off  to the person who came up with this amazing idea.

Financiers

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘Financier’??  Someone with more money than he can spend!! I couldn’t, in my wildest of dreams, imagine that it could also mean something edible, except of course for a cannibal. :-)

Now that I have dug deep, let me shed some light on it.  Financiers (Fee-nahng- syehrs) are French tea cakes made with egg whites, almond powder and flour. The distinctive feature of the recipe is beurre noisette (brown butter). The name financier is said to have been derived from the traditional rectangular mold, which resembles a bar of gold. Another theory has it that the cake became popular in the financial district of Paris surrounding the Paris stock exchange.(Courtesy: Wikipedia). (more…)

Bday cake

I really look forward to the birthdays of my boys, as it gives me a great opportunity to bake a cake and decorate it to my heart’s content. So this time, when J’s birthday was approaching, I took time out to deliberately choose the cake and the icing. If you remember, last time I had prepared the chocolate cake covered with chocolate ganache and decorated with chocolate roses. So, this time I decided to deviate from the chocolaty stuff and make Vanilla Pound Cake with Whipped Cream Icing instead. (more…)

Carrot Cake

Yesterday when I opened the fridge, to my surprise I saw a large pile of carrots. J has been especially fond of buying carrots these days and that too in bulk, every time he goes to the market. The first thought that came to my mind was to prepare a carrot dish. It was then that I realised that I hadn’t baked anything in the last two odd months. Carrot Cake!!!!!! That’s it.

Sabz Jaipuri

Last Sunday, I was pepped up and all set to turn my kitchen into a lab. The ‘Mirchi ka Kutta’ pickle, which I made the other day, has probably let in the Rajasthani bug into me and so I decided to prepare a Rajasthani fare for lunch. After considering the availability of ingredients, I decided to prepare Subz Jaipuri and Panchmel Dal. I am now posting the recipe of Sabz Jaipuri, the recipe of Panchmel Dal will follow soon. Cake pops are such cute little treats to look at!! They come in various colours and designs. While making the cupcakes for the blog anniversary, I had made up my mind to make some cake pops as well and so had kept aside some cake and buttercream frosting. Making cake pops are pretty easy but the trouble starts when you start with the chocolate coating. I knew that that this could be a messy affair and so had kept my work station organised. Moreover I had two little helping hands of my son D. Just didn’t realise how time went by. D was giving his suggestions and I enjoyed the whole process more than ever. (more…)

Today, this blog completes one year. How time flies!!! My mind was preoccupied with the thoughts of my Dad’s surgery that I completely lost track of it. A reminder from wordpress put me back on track…Being the first anniversary, I had to make something special. The first thought was to make Pina Colada cake, which I had baked some time back. A relook at the recipe and I decided to change to Coconut Cupcakes with Pineapple Buttercream Frosting. The reason for this decision was the non availability of pineapple in my pantry. Running to the grocery store was the last thing on my mind…:-) So much for laziness…:-P (more…)

Last Sunday, I was really in the mood to laze around a bit and that was when D came with the request to make Chocolate Coconut Macaroon Truffles, which he saw in a magazine he was browsing. Before I could give out my excuse he volunteered to help me with it. With all my defenses down, I reluctantly agreed to his request.

Yesterday, while talking to a friend of mine, who is on the family way, I asked what she was craving for. Pat came the reply “Cream Cake”. Well, that sounded like a challenge to me and I was only too happy to take it on. Frankly speaking, I was clueless. A quick search zeroed me on to Dee’s recipe, which I followed in letter and spirit.
