Having tried Biryanis from different outlets in Chennai, the one we got hooked on to was the Thalappakatti Biryani. In case you are wondering what it is, let me explain. The Thalappakatti Biriyani Hotel’s roots can be traced all the way back to 1957. Founded by Mr. Nagasamy Naidu under the name Anandha Vilas Biriyani Hotel in Dindigul. He always wore a turban called THALAPA(a traditional head dress), which over the years became synonymous with his brand and cooking styles, leading him to earn the nick name “Thalappakatti Naidu” which eventually became the name of the brand and restaurants. The Hara Masala Biryani recipe I am presenting here is an original creation of mine, a result of my experimentaion. I just called it Hara Masala Biryani because the masala used to prepare the Biryani is green in colour. If there is a Biryani by the same name, I am not sure whether it would taste the same. I can only say that my preparation definitely tastes yummy and my boys will vouch for it.  (more…)

I had come across the recipe of Yakhni Biryani by Chef Zakir Qureshi some time back and has been following ever since. I found the preparation of this Biryani unusual but went ahead.
