Moroccan Spicy Prawns 2

The other day when I bought prawns, D promptly put up his request. “Mama, please make Stir Fried Prawns. You know how much I love it. ” I was so looking forward to try out some new recipe. D’s request put me in a spot. After racking my brains for a while, I zeroed in on Moroccan Spicy Prawns. It is pretty much similar to D’s favourite dish and easy to make as well. I got the recipe from About.com. Though I took the ingredients as per the recipe, I prepared it in my own way. To tell you the truth, I was a bit worried whether D will like it. Fortunately he loved it and was begging for more. There…another successful experiment. :-) (more…)

Baingan Bhartha 2

I have come across a lot of people who dislike Brinjal from the bottom of their hearts. I too was one of them, till the foodie in me got the better of me, getting me to be a little adventurous. Am I thankful for that change?? You bet !! One thing I realised after trying this dish was that, Brinjal wasn’t that bad after all. Gone were the days when I used to find an excuse to not have Brinjal. It was D’s turn now and I must say, he is following in my footsteps. He would plainly refuse to even taste. All this changed during our recent trip to a resort called Tribal Camp in Pench. We were served Baingan Bhartha during lunch there. The moment I tasted it, I was bowled over. That was the best Bhartha I have ever tasted in my life. Though it took a while to convince D to try it, he too loved it. He not only took a second helping, but went a step ahead and asked the waiter to get the recipe for him. Isn’t that cute?? Though I got the recipe, to my disappointment, it didn’t have the measurements. (more…)

Squid Thoran 1

Once we reached ISB, our first outing was to Hypercity in Inorbit Mall to check out grocery items. I was looking around checking out stuff, when D came running and said, “Mama, they have squid here.” The excitement of seeing Squid, his favourite was written all over his face. Needless to say, after a while, we were headed home with a packet of squid in our shopping bag. Squid thoran was the first idea that popped in my mind for the next day’s lunch.  (more…)

Fish curry

I was really missing fish back in Agra and tried to make the most of my vacation by making varieties of seafood dishes. One such dish was a simple fish curry using onions and tomatoes. The first time I was introduced to this preparation was by a good friend Mrs Gordon. I was indeed surprised to see that fish could be prepared in similar way as chicken masala. The only difference was tamarind pulp is added for the sourness. (more…)

Mangalore Fish

Seafood…That was one of the must have’s in our list before heading home. Back in Agra, the chances of getting fresh fish of our choice was next to none. So, the trip to Kerala was double whammy. We get to meet our near and dear ones and eat seafood to our heart’s content. Another aspect for me was the fact that I get to prepare and put up some Fish recipes for my readers. :-) The moment I decided to cook, I knew what I wanted. Mangalore Fish. Tree of life

Those of you, who are regular at watching the TV program ‘MasterChef India’, must be familiar with Chef Vikas Khanna. Though I don’t follow the program much, I have heard a lot about him and his signature dish, ‘The Tree of Life’. My search for the recipe landed me at Martha Stewart’s site, but I wasn’t too excited about it. That was when I decided to try it my way.

Kadai Choley

I have always loved Choley aka Chick Pea. But after marriage, I was in for a shock when J told me that he dislikes Choley-Bhature. My heart literally sank. So, the only time I got to devour Choley was either during parties or when J was away for work. Over the years, I realised that he didn’t have a hatred towards Choley in particular, but disliked the Choley-Bhature combination. This definitely came as a great relief to me.
