Aloo Matar (Stir fried Potatoes with Peas)

D likes potatoes and peas. So I didn’t have to think twice when I wanted to make a ‘Dry Side Dish’. Turning my kitchen into a lab, I set about with the preparation of my dry version of Aloo Matar. Thankfully D loved it. Yay!!! 🙂

Aloo Matar (Stir fried Potatoes with Peas)

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Potatoes diced
  • 1 Onion Chopped
  • 1/2 cup Green Peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ginger paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • pinch Fennel seeds a
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • to taste Salt
  • pinch Asafoetida a

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pan with 2 teaspoons of oil.
  • Add the cumin and fennel seeds.
  • When they start to splutter, add the asafoetida and stir for a few seconds.
  • Add the chopped onion and saute till translucent.
  • Add the ginger garlic pastes and saute for a few minutes.
  • Add the chilli and turmeric powder and mix well for 1 minute.
  • Now add the potatoes and peas and mix well along with salt.
  • Cover and cook, stirring in between, till the potatoes are cooked through.

Notes

This dish can be served with Rice as well as Chapathi/ Roti.
