Dum Paneer Kali Mirch (Peppery Cottage Cheese Gravy)

This is a recipe for those Paneer lovers, looking for a variety.

Ingredients
  

  • 250 gms Cottage cheese cubed
  • 4 Cloves
  • 4 cardamoms Green
  • 1" piece Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons Yoghurt
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 - 3 tablespoons Fresh cream
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional)
  • 1 onion Fried thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Chopped garlic
  • 4 green chillies Chopped

Instructions
 

  • Fry the onion till brown. Drain onto an absorbent paper. .
  • Grind the onion along with ginger, garlic and chillies to a smooth paste. Keep aside. .
  • Heat oil in a pan. .
  • Add the cloves, cardamoms and cinnamon. .
  • When it starts to crackle, add the ground paste and cook till the raw smell goes. .
  • Add yogurt and mix well. .
  • After a minute, add coriander powder, cumin powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and chilli powder.
  • Add salt and cook for a minute.
  • Add the cream, cottage cheese and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well.
  • Seal the pan with foil and put a lid on top.
  • Reduce flame to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Now open it and cook further if you like to dry it up. Add sugar if using. Sprinkle the garam masala powder.
  • Switch off heat. Transfer to a serving dish.
  • Garnish with chopped mint and coriander leaves. Goes well with any Indian bread.
