Kerala Style Fish Fry

There are a lot of variations to marinating the fish before frying. Kerala Style Fish Fry is one of our favourites.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 Mackerel

For the Marinade

  • 1 Small Onion (or shallots 7-8)
  • 5-6 cloves Garlic
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder powder
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vinegar

Instructions
 

  • Clean and score the fish on either sides.
  • Put the shallots, garlic, pepper, chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, vinegar and curry leaves into a grinder.
  • Grind to a smooth fine paste.
  • Apply well all over the fish and keep aside for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • When the oil is hot, carefully place the fish and fry till the side is brown (low flame).
  • Flip the fish and fry till brown in colour.
  • Serve hot.
