Masala Chai (Spiced Tea)

Last week, while I was down with fever, my household help offered to make some “Masala Chai” for me to relieve my throat ache. Though I always prefer tea without any additives, I reluctantly gave in as I wanted some relief to my pain. My apprehensions had more to do with the taste of this Tea than its medicinal value. However, when she brought me the hot cup of tea and when I took the first sip, I was literally bowled over. I have never sipped such a tasty Chai ever in my life. I am sure, by now you would have guessed what my next action was. You guessed it right!! I Immediately took down the recipe from her

So here I am, sharing the recipe of Masala Chai. Sore throat or not, this is something I would love to sip especially during winters. You can prepare this as black tea or with milk. I am giving the measurement for 1 cup of tea with milk

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 Clove
  • 1 cardamom Black
  • 1/2 inch Cinnamon
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • Star anise - a petal
  • 5 - 6 Black Peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Tea leaves (for milk tea or 1/2 teaspoon for black tea)
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar (Optional)
  • 1/2 cup Milk Boiled

Instructions
 

  • Crush all the spices on a mortal and pestle .
  • Put it in a pan along with water and tea leaves.
  • Let it boil
  • Simmer till the quantity reduces to half.
  • Add sugar and boiled milk.
  • Serve hot
