Pizza Sauce

There was a time when buying Pizza sauce was not possible as they weren’t available in stores. I used to use Tomato Ketchup/sauce as the substitute for pizza sauce. When pizzas with tomato ketchup lacked a sense of satisfaction, I had to look out for other options. That’s when I stumbled across a recipe by SAMS_Club. Ever since I tried the recipe, I never had to look elsewhere.
Over the last few years, a few tweaks were made to the recipe to suit our liking. I usually make a large batch of the sauce and refrigerate. For us, the sauce doesn’t last for more than a week as it is used up in no time.

  • 1 Bay leaf (small)
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel seeds powder

  • In a large skillet, melt butter with oil.
  • Add the onion, celery, garlic and saute until soft and transparent.
  • Add tomato sauce and tomato puree and stir until smooth.
  • Add remaining ingredients and bring to slow simmer.
  • Simmer for few minutes.
  • Remove the bay leaf.
  • It's ready to be used.
  • If not using right away, transfer into an airtight container and refrigerate.

You may use dried basil leaves if you don't have fresh ones. The fresh leaves impart more flavour.
