Here's a picture of broken rice.
Rinse the rice 2-3 times.
Take the rinsed rice, water, salt, butter and grated coconut in a pan.
Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously, till the entire mixture turns mushy.
Switch off heat and cover the pan for 5 minutes.
Apply butter on your palms. You may use water also instead.
Take about 3/4 tablespoon of the rice mixture and form small balls.
Place the rolled balls on a muslin cloth, placed on a steamer.
Once the surface is filled, you may place a layer of muslin cloth over the balls and place the remaining balls on it.
Cover the top with another layer of muslin cloth.
Cover this with a lid and steam the balls on medium heat for 20 minutes or till done.
To check if the balls are cooked, you may poke with a knife. It is cooked if the knife comes out clean.
Serve the kadumbuttu with Pandi Curry or any accompaniment of your choice.
