Spicy Chicken Curry

Here's the recipe of a Spicy Chicken Curry which goes very well with Appam, Rice as well as Roti Spicy Chicken Curry


  • 1 kg Chicken
  • 1 - 1/2 cups onion Chopped
  • 1 tomato Chopped
  • 3 sprigs Curry leaves
  • to taste Salt

To be roasted and powdered

  • 1/2 teaspoon Peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Fennel seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 Cinnamon " - stick
  • 6 Cloves
  • 4 Cardamom Green
  • Mace - a small piece
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 2 teaspoons Chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder


  • Heat a pan and roast all the ingredients meant for roasting.
  • Cool, powder and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add the curry leaves.
  • After a few seconds, add the chopped onions and saute till they turn brown in colour.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till fat leaves masala.
  • Now add the powdered spices and mix well.
  • Add the chicken and give a good stir.
  • Cover and cook till the chicken is done.
  • If you want gravy, you can add some hot water and let boil for a couple of minutes till the gravy is thickened.
  • Switch off heat. Serve with Appam, Rice or Rotis.
